Eosinophilic bronchitis (EB) is an identity of bronchial eosinophils infiltrates among patients with chronic cough who do not present any other symptoms characteristic for asthma like wheezing or bronchial hyperresponsiveness. Eosinophilic inflammation is present not only in the asthmatic patietns but also in those with allergic rhinitis, atopic cough or chronic obturatory pulmonary disease (COPD). The pathogenesis of that disease is still not fully known. The differences between asthma and EB seem to be connected with the mastocytes infiltrating the smooth muscle layer of bronchi. The role of neutrophils is not clear in pathogenesis of eosinophilic bronchitis. It is still not proven that asthma and EB are in concecutive relationships. Glicocorticosteroids are effective in releasing cough and decrease amont of sputum eosinophils.
